Captain Joe Root scored his 22nd Test hundred as England posted 314 for 5 at tea. He also became only the second English batsman after Alastair Cook to score 9000 runs in Test cricket. After a wicketless first session, the Indian bowlers managed to pick a couple of wickets after lunch. Mohammed Siraj dismissed Jonny Bairtsow (57) while Ishant Sharma knocked over Jos Buttler (23). However, Root kept the English scoreboard moving by his brilliant batting.  The hosts trail India by 50 runs. Root(132*) was at the crease with Moeen Ali (20*) at tea.

India made a strong start thanks to Mohammed Siraj, who dismissed opener Sibley and Hameed early to put the hosts under pressure. However, Joe Root (48*) again played a key role to provide some stability to the English innings alongside Rory Burns (49). Here, you can find ball-by-ball coverage of England vs India 2nd Test Day 3.
