BCCI Secretary Jay Shah Says Sourav Ganguly Has Not Resigned As Cricket Board President

BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Wednesday has denied that former Indian commander Sourav Ganguly has abnegated as BCCI president. ahead, sources had told ABP News that Ganguly had stepped down from the post of BCCI chief, which the former cricketer himself suggested in a cryptic tweet.

 Sourav Ganguly had taken charge of the Board of Control for Cricket in India( BCCI) as its 39th president in 2019. Ganguly, who steered in a new period in Indian justice with his aggressive captaincy, came the alternate Indian captain to hold the top job in BCCI. The only other Indian captain to come full- time BCCI president was Maharajkumar of Vizianagram.

Before heading BCCI, Ganguly was the president of Cricket Association of Bengal( Hack) for five times.

 West Bengal BJP sources told ABP News Sourav Ganguly could be nominated to the Rajya Sabha from sports share. The terms of two President- nominated Rajya Sabha members from West Bengal, actress Rupa Ganguly and former intelligencer Swapan Dasgupta, are about to end soon.

 The development comes days after Union Home Minister Amit Shah had dinner at Ganguly’s roof in Kolkata during his trip to Bengal. State BJP sources said that the matter was mooted there. Shah was accompanied by Swapan Dasgupta, state BJP president Sukanta Majumdar and Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal assembly, Suvendu Adhikari.

 Dona Ganguly, an acclaimed Odissi dance, also performed at a cultural programme at Kolkata’s iconic Victoria Memorial on May 6 evening that was attended by Amit Shah.

Saurav Ganguly, the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India( BCCI), has not stepped down from his post, BCCI clerk Jay Shah clarified on June 1, shortly after reports claimed that the former Indian commander has submitted his adoption.

 The reports came in the background of a cryptic tweet posted by Ganguly, stating that he is planning to” enter into a new chapter” of his life.

 Shah, while speaking to news agency ANI, vindicated that Ganguly will continue to remain at the helm of India’s nodal cricketing body. He has” not abnegated”, Shah reportedly said.

 Ganguly, 49, was appointed as the BCCI chief in October 2019. His three- time term was listed to end in September this time.

Under Ganguly’s stint as the BCCI president, the Indian public team witnessed a change in leadership across all three formats of the game. Star Indian batter Virat Kohli, who was leading the side since 2017, stepped down as the T20 commander in November 2021, was replaced as the ODI captain the coming month, and relinquished the Test captaincy in January this time.
