Turkey Super Cup Final, Set To Be Played In Saudi, Cancelled Amid Row

The Turkish Super Cup final between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Friday has been cancelled amid a row between the clubs and Saudi authorities.

The Turkish Super Cup final to be played in Saudi Arabia on Friday was cancelled after a disagreement with Saudi authorities over the players ’ jerseys, Turkish media reported.

Haber Turk TV and other media said the Fenerbahce and Galatasaray players wanted to wear T- shirts pictured with ultramodern Turkey’s author, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, during a pre-match warm- up but weren’t authorized to do so by Saudi organizers.

The players claimed on the T- shirts because the Super Cup coincides with the centennial anniversary of the proclamation of the Turkish Republic by Ataturk. Galatasaray and Fenerbahce before pressed for the game to be played on home soil rather Saudi Arabia.
