Tom Latham To Captain New Zealand Against Sri Lanka, Pakistan

With Kane Williamson and Tim Southee playing in the Indian Premier League and unavailable, the wicketkeeper-batter will return to the leadership role he held in Bangladesh in 2021.

Tom Latham will captain an inexperienced New Zealand platoon in coming month’s home Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka and the five- match series in Pakistan that follows, returning to the shortest format for the first time in nearly two times.

With Kane Williamson and Tim Southee playing in the Indian Premier League and unapproachable, the wicketkeeper- batter will return to the leadership part he held in Bangladesh in 2021.

“We saw against India before this season the power and range of shots that Tom retain. His rigidity also means he can feature in a range of fur positions, ” trainer Mike Stead.

“He led an inexperienced T20 team to Bangladesh in 2021 and we were really impressed with his leadership of that group during a COVID bubble stint. ”

Former South Africa U-19 commander and top- order batsman Chad Bowes and attachment Henry Shipley, who made his one- day transnational debut in January, are in line to win their first T20 caps after being included in the team for both series.

New Zealand plays Sri Lanka in Auckland, Dunedin and Queenstown in the first week of April before three T20s against Pakistan in Lahore and another two in Rawalpindi from April 14- 24.

Vantage will skip the Pakistan T20s, leaving Shane Jurgensen to lead the platoon but return to the helm for the posterior five one- day matches against the hosts.

Tom Latham is set to return to T20Is for the first time since 2021 and he’ll lead the side in the home and down series. Also, Chad Bowes and Henry Shipley are likely to make their debuts in the Sri Lanka series.

Along with Tom Latham, Cole Mc Conchie, Rachin Ravindra and Tim Seifert have been named for T20Is for the first time since 2021. The wicketkeeper- batter Tim Seifert won’t take part in the Pakistan series as he and his woman await the birth of their first child. Meanwhile, Dane Cleaver, Cole Mc Conchie and Blair Tickner will join the team as New Zealand trip to Pakistan.

The head trainer of the side, Gary Stead, is all set to take a break during the T20Is against Pakistan and Shane Jurgensen will replace him. Gary Stead will return the team for the ODI series. Know More Latest Cricket News…
