Swiss Teen Beney Out Of FIFA Women’s World Cup With ACL Tear

The 16-year-old, who plays for BSC Young Boys in Bern, tore her anterior cruciate ligament in training before Switzerland was set to play Morocco in a friendly on Wednesday.

Swiss midfielder Iman Beney will miss the Women’s World Cup remonstrating off latterly this month after sustaining a serious knee injury in training, the country’s public platoon said on Tuesday.

The 16- time-old, who plays for BSC Young Boys in Bern, tore her anterior cruciate ligament in training before Switzerland was set to play Morocco in a friendly on Wednesday.

Beney is the rearmost player to be ruled out of the event with an ACL injury. Others include Janine Beckie of Canada, France’s Delphine Cascarino and Vivianne Miedema of the Netherlands.

Switzerland has called up Amira Arfaoui of Bayer Leverkusen to replace Beney.

Switzerland will open its Group A crusade against the Philippines on July 21 before taking on Norway and co-hosts New Zealand.

Switzerland may fancy its chances as it’s the alternate-loftiest- ranked side in the group, only behind 12th- placed Norway. The Philippines and New Zealand are both outside the top 20.

South Korea trainer Colin Bell said it was his duty to cover 16- time-old Casey Phair from the light of hype after including the United States- born striker in his 23- player team for the Women’s World Cup.

Phair, who has an American father and South Korean mama , made the cut for the event in Australia and New Zealand when the team was blazoned on Wednesday, getting the first player of mixed heritage to be named for a Korean World Cup team.

“I know as the first mixed race player for Korea, men and women, it’s a highlight, it’s commodity new, ” Bell said at a press conference in Seoul.

“But as far as I ’m concerned she’s still a sprat and it’s my duty to cover her so she can blossom and really fulfil her eventuality.

“We ’re taking care of her, she’s taken veritably well to the platoon. She’s in the team on merit. She deserves, on her performance, to be named. ”

Phair, who impressed at youth position for the Koreans, joins a team led by former Chelsea midfielder Ji So- yun, with the platoon due to face Germany, Morocco and Colombia at the tests, which protest off on July 20.

Bell said he wasn’t “ experimenting ” by picking Phair.
