Sick Shubman Gill “Is In No Position To.”: Report Claims India’s Worst Fears Might Come True

The BCCI is yet to confirm the nature of Shubman Gill’s illness but head coach Rahul Dravid did not want to throw in the towel yet with 36 hours still to go for the match.

The Indian platoon’s worries ahead of its opening World Cup game against Australia have been compounded with in- form Shubman Gill suspected to be suffering from dengue, rendering him a doubtful starter for Sunday’s match against Australia. Ishan Kishan could open the innings in case Gill is ruled out. The BCCI is yet to confirm the nature of the illness but head trainer Rahul Dravid didn’t want to throw in the kerchief yet with 36 hours still to go for the match.

” He’s feeling better moment. The medical platoon is covering him, and he’s doing better,” Dravid said during a press conference then on Friday.

Dravid, who’s known for being indistinctive, farther played it safe.

” He’s not technically out for the first game. The medical platoon is covering him and (we) will take the decision after hereafter,” he said.

Still, the situation might just not be bright after all.

” Gill isn’t well and he’s in no position to play at least first two games (of the WC),” a BCCI source privy to the developments told PTI on condition of obscurity.

Before, the BCCI had said they were staying for updates on Gill.

” He is under the rainfall, the medical platoon is nearly covering him. We’re hoping he gets better soon. We’ll have to stay on further updates from the medical platoon,” the medical update from BCCI stated.

Gill, India’s most fat batter in ODIs in recent times, is reportedly down with high fever and will be tested for dengue before a final call is taken on his vacuity.

” Shubman has had a high fever since wharf in Chennai. His tests are being done, and a call will be taken on his participation in the opening game,” the BCCI source said.

Still, Gill could miss a couple of games in the World Cup, If dengue is verified in tests.

The recovery from dengue typically takes 7- 10 days for a player to be match- fit again. still, if there’s a significant drop in the platelet count, his rehabilitation could take much further time.

While Gill could be anon-starter against Australia, there’s a high chance that he will not play against Afghanistan (Oct 11) and Pakistan (Oct 14) in case the recovery takes further time.

” Let’s not jump the gun. However, he could play on antibiotics but it’s fully the medical platoon’s call,” the source said, If it’s normal viral fever.

Gill, who has scored 1,200 runs this season, has forged a successful opening stage with commander Rohit Sharma of late.

Still, it could be a big reversal for the Indian platoon, If he’s absent for a long period of time. Know More Latest Cricket News…
