But they broke the impasse in the 51st nanosecond when Lemina didn’t indeed need to get off the ground to head a Pablo Sarabia corner home.
Substitute Nkunku came agonisingly close to equalising when his shot was addressed off the line.
Rather, Wolves doubled their lead in cessation time.
Substitute Hugo Bueno crossed and Chelsea were only suitable to block the ball as far as the staying Doherty, who finished calmly from close range.
