NZ Vs AFG, World Cup 2023: Shahidi Points Out Team’s Batting Loopholes, Latham Wary Of Afghan Bowling Attack

Shahidi feels his team has an edge despite playing their first international match in Chennai, while Latham has backed his side to make it four wins on the trot.

Afghanistan may still be reposing in the glory after its major 69- run palm over England in the ongoing World Cup, but commander Hashmatullah Shahidi didn’t wince down from addressing his platoon’s beginning issues.

Speaking to the media ahead of the match against New Zealand then on Tuesday, Shahidi said, “ I ’m not fully satisfied with our fur as back- to- reverse lattices had put us under pressure in the first two games, and indeed against England.

“ We bandied the problem and agreed that we demanded to ameliorate on this area by not worsening under pressure, ” he added.

Afghanistan lost six lattices for just 76 runs against England in its last match after a strong launch by openers Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz.

“ We’re doing veritably well in the top- order but must also show responsibility in the middle- order. We need to be mentally strong, and everyone, particularly the middle- order batters, need to perform if we’re to win, ” said Shahidi.

“ The first two games did n’t go our way, but we still had the belief. The palm over England will give a lot of confidence to our platoon, ” he added.

Although the Afghans will play their first transnational match in Chennai, Shahidi feels his platoon has an edge. “ We’ve spent the last two to three times in India and are habituated to the conditions. We spent nearly 40 days in Chennai preparing for the 2019 World Cup, so all of this gives us a lot of advantages, especially in these conditions analogous to Afghanistan, ” he said.

Meanwhile, New Zealand captain Tom Latham has backed his side to make it four triumphs on the witch. “ We ’re doing everything we can to prepare for this weekend and execute our plan as stylish we can, and if we do that to the stylish of our capability, we know we ’ll be a delicate platoon to beat on our day, ” said Latham.
