No Point To Prove But Want To Go Out With Bang: Dean Elgar

Elgar’s unbeaten 140, laced with 23 boundaries, has put South Africa in a commanding position against India on the second day of the first Test

Dean Elgar‘s academy of batsmanship on Wednesday was fully out of character but the stodgy left-hander is more intent on bidding congé to transnational justice with a bang than trying to prove a point to anyone. Elgar’s unbeaten 140, laced with 23 boundaries, has put South Africa in a commanding position against India on the alternate day but the man, playing his penultimate Test, felt it was all about enjoying a day that belonged to him.

“I do not suppose I wanted to prove any point. Just that I wanted to go out with a bang as that’s standard I set for myself as there is no looking back now,” Elgar said about his 14th hundred.

Elgar assessed that the track had come more for fur as there was no sun, which would have redounded in cracks on the face but it held establishment.

“It was quite a good gate to the club. Had there been further sun, it would have been tougher. It’s just that it’s been my way. Could have been another batter another day.” typically known for his protective dogged approach, Elgar wanted to look to score runs.

“Your mindset has to be looking to score but also defend and leave balls. There is one ball with your name on it jags back. When you look to score, you’re in a better position to make good opinions, capitalized on balls that are overpitched.” He was all praise for debutant David Bedingham, a stager in first-class justice at 29 and someone who plays county on tough Durham track.

“You suppose he’s youth. He has a lot of experience with first-class justice and a lot of experience in the county of Durham. He has experience playing long-form. He took to Test veritably well,” Elgar said of Bedingham.

So what was his advice to youths Tony de Zorzi (with whom he participated 93 runs for the alternate gate) and Bedingham( 133 for the fourth gate), Elgar said” You need to be harmonious and simplify your gameplan and still look to score.

“Enough straight further communication and get through two bowlers (Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah) and capitalize on balls that can be scored off.” A century at Centurion for the original boy was one in the pail list and exalted festivity was an incarnation of that.

“It was a special day as I do not have a Test hundred in Centurion. My family and musketeers then knew it was my last transnational institution (at this ground). It was a show of appreciation to them,” Elgar said.

So has the reality sunk in that after this, there is only one further game left?” At this moment, the focus is on putting the platoon in a strong position. Maybe near to when Cape Town Test is finished, reality will sink by,” Elgar said.

“Maybe I’ll have a drink and look back and suppose. But right now, it’s all showing the youths what standard they’ve to follow.” Know More Latest Cricket News…
