Van Niekerk missed selection for a triangular event involving India and West Indies before this month but it had been extensively anticipated she’d return for the World Cup.
While thetri-series was being played, Van Niekerk posted a picture of herself fur in the nets in East London, saying it had been “ a tough many weeks ” and thanking the people who were helping her recapture fitness.

She had been left out of an ongoing tri-series also involving India and the West Indies.

“Numerous other players have gone down this route, everyone is relatively familiar with the situation and what’s needed. In December, we set it out easily with where she needs to be.

Van Niekerk posted on social media that she had been left “ absolutely broken ” by the news.
South Africa reached the semi-finals of the last Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia, but were heavily beaten by England in a multi-format series last summer.
Van Niekerk’s woman , fellow each- rounder Marizanne Kapp, has been named as part of a 15- player team.
