Bangladesh managed to eke out an unexpected six-run win over India in an Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match.

Rohit Sharma defended the decision to make massive changes to the playing XI after India were beaten by Bangladesh in their final Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match on Friday. India were formerly in the final of the event and for the inconsequential match, they decided to rest stager players like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj. On the other hand, youth Tilak Varma was handed his ODI debut while Mohammed Shami, Prasidh Krishna, Shardul Thakur and Suryakumar Yadav made their way to the side. In the fate of the match, Rohit said that the idea was to give some game time for the cricketers and that can be important ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023.

“We wanted to give some game time to the guys, keeping the bigger picture in mind. Not compromising on how we wanted to play this game. Get in some players who are likely to play the World Cup,” he said.

Rohit was all praise for the fur performances by Shubman Gill and Axar Patel.

“Axar maundered brilliantly but could not finish. He showed a lot of character. But credit to the Bangladesh bowlers. Gill’s hundred was brilliant. He backs his game, he knows exactly how he wants to play. Enough clear on what he wants to do for the platoon. Look at his form over the last time. Enough solid against the new ball. workshop really hard, there is no voluntary practice for Gill,” Rohit added while analysing the loss.

Shubman Gill‘s sonorous knock of 121 runs and Axar Patel’s fighting 42 went in vain as Bangladesh fought back to end their Asia Cup 2023 crusade on a high by beating finalists India.

Shubman Gill hit his fifth One- Day Internationals century during India’s Asia Cup match against Bangladesh at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

The 24- time-old struck six fours and four sixes on his way to the hundred, reaching the three- figure score in 117 deliveries. Gill, in the process, crossed 1000 runs in the format in the calender time 2023. He came the 13th Indian to achieve the feat. Sachin Tendulkar sits at the top of the list with 1894 runs in 1998.

Opening the fur for India, Gill guided India’s chase and held one end indeed as lattices tumbled at the other. Gill fell on 121 off 133 deliveries off Mahedi Hasan with India still demanding 57 runs off 38.

India ultimately fell just six runs short of the target and was whisked out for 259 runs.

The innings against Bangladesh was Gill’s fourth hundred- plus score in 2023. He also hit 208 against New Zealand in January this time. Know More Latest Cricket News…
