Xana failed from bone cancer in 2019, aged nine, during a period in which Luis Enrique stood down from the Spain job ahead latterly returning. The trainer paid homage to her on the morning of the game with a videotape on social media and said he was managing with what happed naturally.

Despite conceding a late thing against Germany that stopped them nearly sealing qualification for the last 16, the trainer was content.
